EDEXCEL BTec Entry Level Certificate in Life Skills : Independent Living Skills

Independing Living

This course prepares us for living independently in the future if you want to be able to help with domestic tasks at home.

Independing living We learn a range of independent living skills on this course, from looking after our personal presentation, to cooking and cleaning at home.

Independing living Each week we go shopping to buy the ingredients for our cooking lesson. This not only helps us to practice our money skills but we also improve our road safety by walking to the local shops or using public transport. We cook snacks, simple meals and make hot drinks in our own kitchen.

Independing living We also think about how we care for ourselves. Personal presentation is very important and we learn about the things we should do to keep ourselves fresh. We can even have a bath or shower if we need to.

Independing living As part of our Cleaning, Washing & Ironing course we learn how to launder our own clothes, following the care labels and using the washing machine. We help to wash the uniforms from the Horticulture and Catering departments as practice! We also learn how to clean and change bedding and how to clean the rest of the house in our Independent Living Skills lodge.

At Petty Pool we feel that it is vitally important that all of our students develop their life skills. Whether students are living at home, are aiming to live independently or already do so, they need to maintain and develop the skills to look after themselves safely.

We strongly believe that all of our students are capable of living independently with varying levels of support and are always happy to liaise with social services and housing associations in order to help of students achieve their goal of independence.
